{"id":52,"date":"2004-03-30T09:49:32","date_gmt":"2004-03-30T09:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.gregbueno.com\/wp\/sakufu\/2004\/03\/30\/it_was_just_a_dream_\/"},"modified":"2004-03-30T09:49:32","modified_gmt":"2004-03-30T09:49:32","slug":"it_was_just_a_dream_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregbueno.com\/sakufu\/2004\/03\/30\/it_was_just_a_dream_\/","title":{"rendered":"It was just a dream &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m surprised by my strong reaction when I read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metafilter.com\/mefi\/32064#645941\">this comment on Metafliter<\/a>, calling rap music the &#8220;ultimate musical nightmare&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe five years ago I might have agreed &#8212; although I wouldn&#8217;t have called it &#8220;ultimate&#8221; &#8212; but today, I don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The timbres coming out of today&#8217;s music technology are pretty damn striking, and sampling has gone way past MC Hammer ripping off a famous bass line. I can&#8217;t say DJ Danger Mouse&#8217;s <i>The Grey Album<\/i> is any revelation, but I did find it interesting how Danger Mouse cut up the Beatles&#8217; &#8220;White Album&#8221; and pasted it back together again.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s still a cultural gap when it comes to my understanding of hip-hop&#8217;s vocal content, but musically speaking?
