{"id":15,"date":"2003-12-01T00:44:12","date_gmt":"2003-12-01T00:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.gregbueno.com\/wp\/sakufu\/2003\/12\/01\/name_one\/"},"modified":"2003-12-01T00:44:12","modified_gmt":"2003-12-01T00:44:12","slug":"name_one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregbueno.com\/sakufu\/2003\/12\/01\/name_one\/","title":{"rendered":"Name one"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This search result won&#8217;t qualify as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.googlewhack.com\/\">Googlewhack<\/a>, but when I did a quoted search on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%22black+indie+rock+bands%22&amp;btnG=Search&amp;hl=en&amp;lr=&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\">black indie rock bands<\/a>&#8220;, I got a single result to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=U&amp;start=1&amp;q=http:\/\/www.billboardlive.com\/links\/rock_b&amp;e=7800\">Billboard magazine site<\/a>, which requires registration.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m doing a Black History Month theme for February&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicwhore.org\/\">Musicwhore.org<\/a> reviews, and I want to spend a week featuring black artists performing music not usually considered &#8220;black&#8221;. I&#8217;ve so far got Audra McDonald (a theater singer) and Living Colour (a metal band).<\/p>\n<p>Why should I be shocked and surprised there are no (widely known) black contemporaries of, say, Death Cab for Cutie or Spoon? Of Caitlin Cary or Wilco?<\/p>\n<p>Name me a black artist who <i>doesn&#8217;t<\/i> perform jazz or blues or hip-hop or urban pop. Name me a black artist who <i>does<\/i> perform indie rock, country, punk or metal.<\/p>\n<p>(I already know about Charley Pride, Fishbone and Bad Brains, so they don&#8217;t count.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why should I be shocked and surprised there are no (widely known) black contemporaries of, say, Death Cab for Cutie or Spoon?
