For all of Time Warner’s chest thumping about the inconvenience of DSL — and yes, it is terribly inconvenient, since I couldn’t even move my connection with me when I moved a mere 50 yards — DSL has done one thing my cable connection hasn’t — stayed connected.
At some point in the day, every freeking day, I can bank on my cable modem losing its connection to the network. Without fail. I’ll be in the middle of reloading a page or transfering a file, and I’ll get a connection error.
And every few weeks, I need to reset the modem — id est, unplug the damn thing — when the routers decide to stop functioning.
Only once in the entire two years I used DSL did I experience router problems with my DSL connection. With cable, there hasn’t been a single day it doesn’t drop.
Chest thump that, cable company.
